Wildwood’s Annual Math Night scheduled for Thur, April 6th. Help needed!

Newsflash:  Math Night has been scheduled!  Elizabeth Pretel is again putting together a tremendous school wide exhibition of mathematics, with activities for all families.

More details very soon, but one thing for now:

Elizabeth would be very appreciative for help in preparing materials for the math night. She has blocked out 4 volunteer afternoons (Fri 3/17, Thu 3/23, Fri 3/31, Mon 4/3), from noon til 3pm.  If you could help, please sign up on by clicking on this signup form.

Opportunity to be involved with Superintendent Search Process

A Screening Committee is being formed to support the search process for a new Superintendent of Schools, who is anticipated to begin work in our district in July. The Screening Committee will be made up of School Committee members, building principals, educators, representatives of the School Equity Task Force, the Special Education Parent Advisory Council, and the Family Center, and a community member from Amherst, Pelham, Leverett or Shutesbury chosen at random. In addition parents/guardians representing the secondary and elementary schools are asked to serve on the committee.

The PGOs are working together to select these parent/guardian members. The time commitment is substantial. The selected members must be available to meet for one or two organizational meetings during the week of March 20; the same individuals must also be available during the week of March 27 to participate in confidential interviews of the semi-finalist candidates. Many of these meetings are likely to occur during the workday. It is unclear at this time how many interviews will be conducted, but each will last approximately one hour. The total time commitment cannot be quantified at the outset but past experience indicates that members must be available during business hours and may need to be available in the evening on multiple days. A flexible work schedule and child care planning are essential to meeting this important commitment.

If you would like to be considered as a parent/guardian committee member please submit your name to wildwoodelementarypgo@gmail.com and include a brief (3 – 5 sentence) statement outlining why you wish to serve. If there are more interested candidates from the Wildwood community than the allowed two available positions, a school wide election will be held. The two selected Wildwood candidates will be added to a pool of candidates from the other elementary schools and the final members will be chosen at random. No more than one member from each school will be allowed to serve, and due to the size limitations on the committee as a whole, not all schools will have parent/guardian representation.

Help for WW 4th grader Bill Chu and his kidney transplant

Dear Wildwood,
I have been meeting with a neighborhood group who has been supporting Bill Chu’s (in fourth grade) family and Bill’s parents as they face an upcoming kidney transplant for this courageous nine year old. They have created a Facebook page and a online donation page which will go towards defraying the extra costs to the family, such as driving and staying overnight in Boston (links below).
I have personally known this family for more than twenty-five years and have taught two of the older children. The parents’ own story is extraordinary. They could use the support of our community.
      Nick Yaffe, Wildwood Principal

Welcome Back – and a Special Welcome to our New Families

Wildwood Elementary School is a wonderful community with vibrant parent/guardian involvement. The Wildwood Parent Guardian Organization (PGO) is comprised of volunteers who donate their time and talent to enrich the school. Our mission is to build a strong community, and support enrichment and equity for all children at Wildwood. We support teachers and staff so they can provide the best elementary school experience for all students. We also stage a variety of fun events, both child and adult-focused, throughout the year.  Supporting and helping at these events is a great way to become more involved in the school, meet other parents and keep up to date with the Wildwood community.

We personally invite you to become involved at Wildwood. Your contribution, whether it is time, knowledge, or resources make a big difference. Thank you for helping in any way you can, and showing your children the importance you place on their education!

This year, we have taken most of our welcome packet information online. For your convenience, you can find this and more on our website/blog at https://wildwoodpgo.com/  under “Parent Corner”. Please check the calendar for all upcoming PGO meetings and school events, and subscribe to the blog to receive a weekly email with Wildwood news and current events (click the “Follow” link in the bottom right corner of the website).

We look forward to getting to know your family.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Questions and suggestions are always welcome!

Heather Welch, Wildwood PGO Chair 2016-2017

Let’s Help The Wildwood Teachers & Staff! 2015-2016 Wishlists now available

Dear Wildwood Community: Let’s Support Our Teachers & Staff

Each year, the Parent Guardian Organization (PGO) asks the teachers & staff to let us know what they could use in their classrooms. The 2015-2016 lists can be seen by clicking here.

Please look over the lists and consider donating any items.  Or check with a classroom parent and/or teacher or staff person if there may be other ways you could help.  Possibly a small cash donation would be very helpful towards purchasing something needed.

Thanks for any help making WW great.

Jasper, parent and volunteer with PGO

(PS:  feel free to contact me with any questions / suggestions — wildwood.wishlist@gmail.com, 503-890-3200)

Estimado Wildwood Comunidad : Apoyemos Nuestros profesores y personal
