We are happy to announce the scheduling of the first Amherst-wide Science Night to be held the evening of April 10th at Amherst Regional Middle School. This will be an evening of demonstrations and activities with scientific professionals from our community with topics ranging from astronomy and biochemistry to material science and zoology. We are working with the support of PGOs and principals from all three elementary schools as well as ARPS central administration to bring this event together.
We are seeking scientists who are interested in presenting an activity station for the students. The commitment would likely be for about 2 hours on the evening of April 10, depending on the amount of setup time required. We seek activities and topics that are age-appropriate for elementary students. (The Science Night planning committee will work with presenting scientists to discuss some limitations on the activities as well as connections to curriculum for this age group.) If you are interested or would like to recommend someone for us to invite, please contact Jon.Reichard@gmail.com.
We are also looking for volunteers to help with the event. Volunteer opportunities include: helping set-up and break down, welcoming and orienting student participants, managing timing and group sizes and helping them move through activity stations, and assisting sponsors in demonstrations. We will be sending out a sign-up form for volunteers with more details soon.
