A Screening Committee is being formed to support the search process for a new Superintendent of Schools, who is anticipated to begin work in our district in July. The Screening Committee will be made up of School Committee members, building principals, educators, representatives of the School Equity Task Force, the Special Education Parent Advisory Council, and the Family Center, and a community member from Amherst, Pelham, Leverett or Shutesbury chosen at random. In addition parents/guardians representing the secondary and elementary schools are asked to serve on the committee.
The PGOs are working together to select these parent/guardian members. The time commitment is substantial. The selected members must be available to meet for one or two organizational meetings during the week of March 20; the same individuals must also be available during the week of March 27 to participate in confidential interviews of the semi-finalist candidates. Many of these meetings are likely to occur during the workday. It is unclear at this time how many interviews will be conducted, but each will last approximately one hour. The total time commitment cannot be quantified at the outset but past experience indicates that members must be available during business hours and may need to be available in the evening on multiple days. A flexible work schedule and child care planning are essential to meeting this important commitment.
If you would like to be considered as a parent/guardian committee member please submit your name to email@example.com and include a brief (3 – 5 sentence) statement outlining why you wish to serve. If there are more interested candidates from the Wildwood community than the allowed two available positions, a school wide election will be held. The two selected Wildwood candidates will be added to a pool of candidates from the other elementary schools and the final members will be chosen at random. No more than one member from each school will be allowed to serve, and due to the size limitations on the committee as a whole, not all schools will have parent/guardian representation.
