Jones Library – book club, legos, and more

Sept. 27 (Sunday), 2 pm – Act!vated Story Theatre – Kids and their families are invited to join us for a performance of two folktales from Eastern Europe – The Dragon of Krakow and Something From Nothing – on Sunday, September 27 at 2 pm in the Woodbury Room.

Sept. 29 (Tuesday), 2 – 5pm – Amherst Community Connections (ACC) provides information and referral on emergency services including housing, food stamps, fuel/utility assistance, and emergency financial assistance to anyone in need. ACC holds office hours at the Jones Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, except when the Library is closed for holidays or for inclement weather. No appointment is necessary. Walk-ins are welcome.  For those who cannot come during ACC’s office hours at the Jones Library, an appointment can be made by calling the office at 413-345-0737. ACC’s office is located in the Amherst Carriage Shops. The address is 233 North Pleasant Street, Suite 40, Amherst.

Sept. 29, 4:30 & 6:30 pm – First Amendment Film Festival. Celebrate Banned Books Week and join us on Tuesday, September 29 for a double feature screening of films based on books that have been challenged or banned over the years.The Wizard of Oz screens at 4:30, and The Color Purplescreens at 6:30 pm. ©Warner Bros.

Oct. 1 (Thursday), 4 pm – Jones Library After School Book Club will be discussing Mr. and Mrs. Bunny — Detectives Extraordinaire! translated from the Rabbit by Polly Horvath.  Thursday, October 1, 2015, 4-5pm – for grades 3-5, in the Kids Biography Room.  Register in the Kids Room and pick up a copy of the book. Come for great discussion! Snacks will be provided!

Oct. 1, 6:30 pm – Trivia Night at the Jones Library. Join us at our new monthly event on Thursday, October 1 at 6:30 pm for a Trivia Night hosted by Mark “Harpo” Power. Come as a team or form teams on the spot. The $5-$10 donation per player supports the Jones Library. Doors open at 6 pm. Refreshments and prizes!

Oct. 3 (Sat), 3:30 – 5pm – Chess Club with Andy Morris-Friedman. Ages 7 and up.

Oct. 8 & Oct. 22nd – Jones Library / ARPS MakerSpace.  Session One, ages 8-12yo.  Register for one session.  Makerspace: DIY spaces where people can gather to create, invent, and learn.  Join us for a special collaboration between the Jones Library and Amherst Regional Public School (ARPS) as we offer this first ever series of programs! Oct. 10 – Lego Club at the Jones. Saturdays 9/12, 10/10, 11/14, and 12/12, from 3:00pm to 4:30pm, in the Woodbury Room (in the lower level). Ages 6-10yo; Legos will be provided!

Oct. 20 – littleBits Building Club, Tuesday Oct. 20; Nov. 17; OR December. Join us for the Jones Library littleBits Building Club! These color coded circuit boards snap together easily to create sophisticated electronics.  Sign up for ONE session: Tuesday October 20th, November 17th, or in December, from 4-5pm in the Crafts Room.  For Ages 8-11.  Space is limited, and registration is required.
