LSSE Youth Activities, Spring 2015

This spring brings some exciting opportunities for kids at LSSE, starting soon. To learn about forthcoming youth programs (instructional, performing arts, sports, visual arts and camps):

Our perennially popular drama teacher, Becca Greene-Van Horn, continues to hold her improvisation classes for kids. ‘Youth Improv’ starts April 7, and ‘Gods, Goddesses, and Percy Jackson’ starts April 8. For younger kids, children’s book illustrator David Hyde Costello will hold drawing and illustration classes, starting on April 1 and 2. Finally, on Sat., April 11, LSSE will host a coach bus trip to New York City, a manageable, easy way for families to experience the City together.

Sports offerings include…

Youth Volleyball Clinic: This is a recreational clinic that will emphasize skill development, teamwork, and fun. At this clinic the focus is to build on fundamental skills for kids in grades 5-8. We hope to perfect technique so that kids are ready to take their game to the next level and potentially play in high school. View flyer: Volleyball 2015

Girls Softball Clinic: This is a recreational clinic that will emphasize skill development, teamwork, and fun. The clinic is taught by Coach Keizer, who is a PE teacher at Fort River and has two years of experience instructing softball camps. Throughout the season we also have various high school and college level players volunteer. View flyer: Girls Softball Flyer 2015

Flag Football: For the past five seasons, the Town of Amherst Leisure Services in conjunction with Amherst College head coach EJ Mills, Amherst College Football coaching staff and Amherst Youth Football volunteers have run an instructional program to teach the game of non-contact flag football to boys and girls of all abilities in grades 1-6. In his 18 year tenure at Amherst, Coach Mills has been named the Division II/III New England Head Coach of the Year by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston, the NESCAC Coach of the Year and the American Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year. In the past five seasons Coach Mills has compiled an impressive record of 35-5! Come learn and develop the necessary skills and concepts of basic football in a safe and fun environment! View flyer: flag football flyer 2015
