My name is Brittany Bennett. I am a junior at Smith College and I am the coordinator for Smith College’s Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGTED).
IGTED is a free program run by the Society of Women Engineers for girls in grades 6-8. They are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of science and engineering related hands-on activities. We, the Smith College Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers, have run this program in the past and it has been extremely popular.
Activities for this year’s program include a civil engineering group where students will be challenged to design a house based of a real world scenario after being given a crash course in 2D AutoCAD, a mechanical group which will work on designing and modifying a hydraulic arm, and an electrical group which will program LEGO Mindstorm robots.
We are extremely excited to be able to run this program again, but in order to have a successful day, we first need to get the word out to the girls and their families. I have attached our poster which includes details about registration. This year we will be offering online registration and the links are listed on the flyer. Since the website that we are using for registration does not allow us to offer bilingual registration materials, we will be offering hard copies of registration materials in Spanish. The Spanish registration materials have also been attached to this e-mail.
I have already sent this information to the superintendents in the Pioneer Valley but I also wanted to get the information to local science teachers. This is time-sensitive, we are asking that parents return the form to us in a few weeks, so the sooner these get to the schools, the better. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, and please do let me know if there is more that I need to do to ensure speedy distribution. Thank you so much for your time and cooperation.
